My Sutro Smart Monitor App

Sutro

Background

My Sutro is an IoT app that works with a smart monitor to measure the free chlorine, alkalinity, pH, and temperature of pools and spas. Sutro is a CES honoree for Most Innovative Smart Home Technology.

Grio's Role

Grio has worked with Sutro to design & develop nearly all of their device software, including a chatbot, a chemical recommendation engine, and the underlying app software for web, iOS, and Android. Grio additionally built a modular system that allowed Sutro to test updates prior to completion of the full app, and to test the app prior to completion of the final hardware.

Results

Sutro's My Sutro pool monitoring solution launched in the fall of 2019. Some of Grio's most impactful contributions to date include: providing full-stack development from Firmware to cloud on IoT devices, integrating the chatbot, adding marketing automation, and building a chemical recommendation platform.

Background

Neustar was looking for a creative partner to help them define a platform that would establish their company as a leader in the emerging market of Internet of Things (IoT) technology.

Grio's Role

Grio developers established a set of flexible rules that would apply to a wide range of devices and use cases, using an agile process to build out the registry system. Our initial prototype expanded into a working Java-based IoT registry that was secure, scalable, and flexible.

Results

Neustar's registry solution has positioned the company as a leader in the IoT market. The Grio team provided extensive documentation, system plans, and a working platform that is ready to scale.

Background

Next Issue Media's app, Texture, brings magazine subscriptions into the digital age. With one monthly payment, users get access to digital issues of over 200 popular magazines.

Grio's Role

Grio worked with the NIM team for more than two years to improve their app design and overall user experience, tackling everything from small, fast-turnaround projects to large, complex design efforts.

Results

In 2016, Texture's app was selected by the App Store editorial team for the annual Best Of selections. In 2018, Texture was acquired by Apple.


Ceribell Clinician Web Portal

Ceribell

Background

Ceribell's EEG device turns brainwaves into sounds, allowing front-line medical professionals, such as nurses and ER doctors, to quickly diagnose seizures and other brain function anomalies.

Grio's Role

Ceribell tapped Grio to build a medical-grade IoT platform for their novel electroencephalogram (EEG) device. The Grio team designed and built Ceribell's FDA-approved cloud-based EEG system, the first of its kind.

Results

With Grio's new build, clinicians can visualize multiple data streams concurrently, which has improved efficiency in the diagnostic and treatment workflow. A 2020 study found that the combination of the Ceribell EEG device and Grio's IoT platform resulted in a wait time for results of 5 minutes compared to the 4 hours with conventional EEGs, as well as a diagnostic accuracy of 90% compared to the 65% using clinical judgment alone. A second study of the Ceribell EEG found that the use of the system resulted in average savings of more than $5,000 per patient. The Ceribell EEG Portal was the first FDA-cleared seizure burden trend for effective seizure management. The Ceribell system is now FDA-approved for all ages and is used in clinical settings across the country to detect ongoing seizures, making EEGs more accessible, efficient, and cost-effective.

SPARK BUSINESS is an app that helps small businesses better manage their finances and banking needs.

Grio's Role

Grio collaborated with Capital One to design the SPARK BUSINESS app by providing direction in UX, visual design, strategy, planning, and process.

Results

Deliverables were heuristic evaluations, a competitive analysis, persona development, MVP hypotheses, flow charts, wireframes, mockups, concept explorations, and prototypes. Grio also produced marketing site concepts, responsive designs, and a detailed style guide for SPARK BUSINESS.

Fitbit is the industry leader in activity trackers and wireless-enabled wearable technology. While the Fitbit team is a master of wearable technology hardware, they needed a team that could assist with the design and development of the corresponding software.

Grio's Role

Since 2016, Grio has provided mobile software development assistance for Fitbit, contributing to a wide range of iOS and Android initiatives.

Results

Grio has played a major role in various Fitbit features, products, and releases, including multiple new device launches, payment integration, sleep & wellness tracking, onboarding, and subscription management.

Daikin Industries, Ltd. is a leading innovator and global provider of advanced, high-quality air conditioning and heating solutions for residential, commercial, and industrial applications.

Grio's Role

Grio performed a detailed usability analysis to produce an extensible design system architecture focused on common elements, such as colors, iconography, and patterns.

Results

Design, product, and marketing projects have accelerated now that these teams no longer need to spend time sorting through multiple versions of brand assets, and the Daikin brand is represented consistently across platforms, without any compromise in performance or accessibility.

Yahoo!

Background

With close to 3 million users, Rivals is a Yahoo Sports website that is the go-to site for college sports recruiting news.

Grio's Role

Since 2016, Grio has been Rivals' sole partner for development, design, devops, and on-call support.

Results

Rivals has seen a 12x increase in traffic to homepage, with a codebase that scales efficiently to meet heavy seasonal traffic loads. Rivals.com publishers operate more efficiently thanks to the addition of modern, user-friendly publishing tools. Mobile users can easily access and navigate the site through apps for both iOS and Android.

ATA Custom T-Shirt Configurator

ATA

Background

ATA wanted to create a seamless custom t-shirt ordering experience by developing a smart configurator. The challenge was to build a tool that accurately calculated body measurements and integrated seamlessly with Shopify for order fulfillment.

Grio's Role

Grio designed and developed a cloud-based sizing API and a Shopify-integrated configurator. This included a dynamic measurement calculator, admin editing tools, automated order processing, and CRM integration via Klaviyo.

Results

The configurator enhanced customer experience, reduced sizing errors, and streamlined fulfillment. ATA now offers a scalable, user-friendly solution that simplifies custom apparel ordering.

GRO App

Grio (Internal Project)

Background

Grio wanted to see exactly what we could accomplish with AI API integrations. While many of our developers had used them in other projects, we wanted to create an app that allowed us to fully test the capabilities and limitations firsthand.

Grio's Role

For the GRŌ app, we chose to integrate with GPT-4. The GRŌ app has two distinct integrations with GPT-4: personalized recommendations and an AI chatbot assistant.

Results

Some of the key features of the GRO app include: - AI virtual assistant that uses location information to make personalized plant and care recommendations - A virtual garden of recommended plants based on the users based on biome and location information. Once a plant is in a user's virtual garden, the app can continue to provide care recommendations throughout the year. - A virtual assistant chat feature with controlled responses that ensure the assistant's answers are relevant to the user's location

Lend for Peace Website

Lend for Peace

Background

Lend for Peace is a non-profit that aims to maximize the impact of micro-finance in the Middle East by empowering entrepreneurs.

Grio's Role

Grio built the Lend for Peace website, which allows donors to lend money to impoverished families and communities in the Middle East.

Results

The Lend for Peace website is still active and supporting families and communities in the Middle East.

iCoin iOS & Android Apps

iCoin

Background

The iCoin Wallet System is an Air Gap digital wallet for Bitcoin and Ethereum. The wallet uses a rear-facing camera to read and import the blockchain data required to create a transaction.

Grio's Role

Grio provided iOS and Android development for consumer applications and engineered the blockchain communications between the app and the hardware wallet.

Results

The iCoin Wallet System was released in 2022, and was named Best Bitcoin Hardware Wallet in 2023 by BraveNewCoin. Grio continued working with iCoin to develop iOS and Android companion applications that pair with the hardware wallet, as well as a backend server that connects to crypto exchanges to check transactions and price fluctuations.

Enspectra Tablet App

Enspectra Health

Background

Enspectra Health is pioneering virtual biopsies.

Grio's Role

The Grio team was tasked with building a tablet application for Enspectra's non-invasive skin biopsy solution. The goal was to create an easy-to-use product, allowing a clinician to capture and review images on a tablet while scanning the Enspectra wand over the patient's skin.

Results

The completed tablet app enabled Enspectra to pass their initial clinical trial as well as numerous testing phases. Grio's contributions have moved Enspectra closer to its ultimate goal of FDA approval and adoption in the dermatology medical field.

Elemeno Application Redesign

Elemeno Health

Background

The Elemeno Health app enables nurses and other hospital staff to easily access and disseminate standard operating procedures within hospital organizations.

Grio's Role

Elemeno had previously released a working product, but they needed to take it to the next level. To get there, they partnered with Grio to do a visual and UX redesign of their product, along with front-end development work for the core screens and flows.

Results

The redesign provided a dramatically cleaned-up and streamlined design that improved user experience throughout the application. Elemeno users are now able to find the information they need quickly and efficiently. The new design will also scale to accommodate a new data architecture planned for a future rollout.

Background

Embroker is creating the modern solution for Business Insurance by providing a secure online platform for filling out business policies.

Grio's Role

Embroker came to Grio in search of a UX expert who could improve the user experience of filling out extensive Business Insurance forms. Grio designers created a dashboard for users to easily access their forms and track progress.

Results

Form design best practices were applied to each set of forms to maximize speed and efficiency, and the result was an easy-to-use dashboard and streamlined form completion process.


C3 Pathfinder App

C3 Pathfinder

Background

C3 Pathfinder is a data discovery tool for states, career counselors, and eventually students. The tool outlines specific skills and links them together so that a student/participant can see how their skills can be built upon to earn related, stackable skills that will transition to higher-skilled, higher paying jobs (the “pathway”).

Grio's Role

The Grio team was brought on board to build out the MVP version of the application, to be deployed across Alabama community colleges. After defining product requirements, we built the initial iteration of the app as a React plugin with a Wordpress backend.

Results

Grio's contributions have allowed C3 Pathfinder to start rolling out the application throughout the Alabama Community College system, with an ultimate goal of expanding nationwide. C3 Pathfinder now has an MVP that college administrators can use in the field and give feedback on, and a robust platform for future growth.

ArmorBlox

ArmorBlox

Background

Armorblox is a cybersecurity firm preparing to launch its first product. Armorblox needed a design partner to help it develop and refine its product interface while in stealth mode.

Grio's Role

Through a series of week-long design sprints, Grio produced a design guide (style tile), finalized screens, and developer-ready assets. Grio focused on improving the service's overall usability through goals like revising the dashboard components to be easily readable at a glance.

Results

In February 2019, Armorblox emerged from stealth mode and raised $16.5 million of Series A funding from General Catalyst. Armorblox is a leading voice in cybersecurity with its innovative use of AI and NLP. They worked with Grio to design the interface that reports what the system has learned regarding potential threats.

Background

iPracticeBuilder allows coaches to build, store, and share sports practice plans.

Grio's Role

Grio redesigned the app's most essential screens and provided UI/UX design solutions for a more user friendly interface with a consistent, sleek, and fun visual design. Grio also designed and developed iPracticeBuilder's responsive website.

Ambassador App

Background

Ambassador provides non-profits with a modern, digital way to solicit donations and signatures for petitions. The app gamifies the advocate experience, motivating and encouraging users to support a cause and seek out others to take action with them.

Grio's Role

Grio designed the Ambassador app from the ground up, producing detailed UI/UX wireframes and high-fidelity design mockups.

Results

Our collaboration with Moran Group produced a result that lauded ease of use, scannability, delightful interaction, and pleasing visual design. Grio's prototype secured additional funding and the client returned to us to fully develop the MVP.

Background

The founders at CatalogIt had a fantastic idea for a new application to help small museums and personal collectors manage and enjoy their items. With their new application built, CatalogIt needed a brand identity and website to market it.

Grio's Role

CatalogIt worked with Grio to design a new logo and website.

Results

CatalogIt has received glowing praise for the application, as well as the logo and website.

Background

Officewise provides a cloud-based, back-office web application that simplifies the management of Purchase Orders, Invoices, and Inventory. Paperwork is eliminated!

Grio's Role

Grio worked with Officewise to design their new brand identity, which included a logo and the design and development of a new responsive marketing site.

Results

Officewise returned to Grio to design the client-facing portion of their product. We worked with them to iterate on dashboard designs and the complex forms that are required for inventory management. Grio and Officewise decided to leverage data visualization libraries for the dashboard in order to maximize flexibility and usability.

Background

LodgeLink provides lodging and transportation for large groups of workers, often in remote locations. LodgeLink is known for its ease of use, convenience, and customer service.

Grio's Role

LodgeLink wanted to capitalize on users trending towards mobile but didn't have mobile development experience in-house. Grio provided mobile software development for LodgeLink's first iOS and Android offerings.

Results

LodgeLink was able to accommodate its growing mobile user base by offering a quick and seamless solution for users' needs. Following the launch of LodgeLink's app, users reported a dramatic increase in convenience when managing their bookings remotely. LodgeLink also obtained valuable data on user behavior, gaining insights on when and how users were engaging with the platform.

Background

Miansai creates fine jewelry and statement pieces for the everyday, modern minimalist.

Grio's Role

Miansai turned to Grio to design and build a unique product configurator that could be added to their existing Shopify site. Grio built the product configurator as a React-based Shopify plugin.

Results

Grio's configurator lets shoppers create their own custom jewelry by dragging and dropping products onto an HTML Canvas. Shoppers can additionally move and reorder their products, and navigate between product images by swiping left and right. The configurator tracks price and availability information so shoppers can quickly move to checkout when their creation is complete.

Omniquo Marketing Site

Omniquo

Background

Omniquo provides an artificial intelligence (AI) software suite that powers the functions of sales, marketing, service, and transactional workflows.

Grio's Role

Grio worked with Omniquo on a company rebrand, during which Grio developed Omniquo's new brand identity, including its logo, typography, color, and iconography. Grio was also responsible for designing three marketing sites.

Results

Grio's rebrand better aligned Omniquo's brand identity with its unique and competitive value propositions. Additionally, the three marketing sites that Grio designed further supported Omniquo's new brand, provided streamlined UX and UI, and were optimized for web traffic and conversion.

IronSheepdog

Background

IronSheepdog builds a set of tools, including a mobile application, that help managers of trucking fleets manage truck movement.

Grio's Role

IronSheepdog had an existing React Native application, but they didn't have an in-house resource to work on it. They turned to Grio to perform application maintenance and build out new features.

Results

Grio developers implemented crash reporting using Crashlytics and Bugsnag, and started fixing crashes. Grio also refactored numerous app features for an improved user experience.

Background

Days before the launch of their new meeting recording app, Otter, AISense pivoted to a tiered revenue model.

Grio's Role

Leveraging Grio's design team, new messaging and payment flows for the in-app purchases were designed for both mobile and desktop versions of the Otter app.

Results

These and other improvements were delivered on time for inclusion in the early beta release to journalists. AISense was able to launch Otter on time and has been receiving great reviews.

Percept iOS & Android Apps

Percept Corporation

Background

Percept was founded in 2013 with a goal of advancing human vision, perception, and performance through technology. Percept came to Grio for help developing the MVP versions of their iOS and Android applications.

Grio's Role

Grio designed and developed the iOS and Android applications from the ground up, working with the Percept team to understand their business goals and propose a solution that would be a companion to the Percept wearable device.

Results

Percept's initial public offering, MiWear, launched in Q1 2023. Some of Grio's most impactful contributions to date include: providing full stack development for apps for both consumers and eye care professionals, defining the Bluetooth specification that allows the app to communicate with the wearable device, and designing a beautiful and intuitive application for gathering feedback from wearable device users.

Pyvott Flutter App

Pyvott

Background

Pyvott is a new social media app that puts users, not the algorithm, in control of what they see. Pyvott focuses on privacy, personalization, content, and customized control.

Grio's Role

The Pyvott team entirely outsourced product management, design, and development to Grio, leveraging Grio's expertise from the very beginning of their app definition. The Grio team was responsible for defining, designing, and building the MVP version of the Pyvott application for iOS and Android. Grio developers built Pyvott in Flutter to expedite the development time and handled the full stack development of the Pyvott backend server.

Results

Grio project managers and designers engaged deeply with the Pyvott team, collaborating on everything from initial product research and definition through user research, design, development, and release.

Background

Premise is a data and analytics platform that empowers its users through a global network of on-the-ground contributors, industry-leading data science, and machine learning.

Grio's Role

Grio worked closely with the Premise team to design and develop an upgraded version of their iOS and Android apps, focusing on creating experiences that make it easier for users to navigate directly to tasks that they're best suited to perform.

Results

Grio acted as Premise's sole design team and undertook a major effort to bring their iOS and Android apps to parity. Our design work included conducting comparative design audits, creating user flows and new designs, and assembling asset libraries for both iOS and Android. All of this design work contributed to a smooth developer hand-off, easy access to assets for both Grio and Premise developers, and a successful launch in the app stores.

Stitcher's innovative radio service specializes in podcast distribution. When it came time to develop the next version of their award-winning app, they needed to quickly expand their team.

Grio's Role

Grio helped Stitcher scale up their team during the build phase of the project. Grio's mobile development team collaborated with Stitcher to build version 2.0 of the Stitcher Android app.

Background

Goodreads is the world's largest social network for readers. Users can connect with friends to search, rate, and review any book in Goodreads' inventory of more than 12 Million titles.

Grio's Role

Goodreads selected Grio as their partner to build and release their latest Android versions for Amazon's Kindle Fire.

Results

The Goodreads app launched on the Amazon Kindle Fire and was utilized by Goodreads' Android users.

Stride Health

Background

Stride Health is the leader in portable benefits for independent workers, offering access to health insurance plans and easy-to-use tools that help people get covered and put their plans to use.

Grio's Role

In order to meet its product goals, Stride Health needed to quickly ramp up its design team. Grio designers embedded in Stride Health to keep their product design moving forward while they searched for more permanent team members.

Results

Grio designed web and mobile features for Stride Health's consumer site, as well as tools for insurance brokers. After our initial three-month engagement ended, Grio designers were brought back a few months later to help Stride Health stay on top of their timelines and meet their goals.

Twist Bioscience's DNA-based tools have enabled researchers across a variety of scientific disciplines to achieve groundbreaking discoveries.

Twist turned to Grio developers for help writing Python scripts for their phage detection platform.

Background

The Chemical Lifecycle Collaborative (CLiCC) tool is a groundbreaking application that analyzes and educates users about the intricate life cycle of chemicals in our environment. The UCSB team deeply understood the science behind what they wanted to build, but didn't have the design or development expertise to carry out their product vision.

Grio's Role

With a grant from the US EPA, the Grio team was brought on board to define, design, and build the MVP version of the CLiCC product. Grio project managers and designers engaged in an in-depth exploration of the project's requirements, enabling us to craft meticulous wireframes and designs for this complex tool. Our developers then built the application in React for a scalable and maintainable system.

Results

The CLiCC product was launched in 2018 and continues to enable rapid, high-throughput screening of life-cycle impacts for new chemicals.

Kleiner Perkins, a century capital firm, needed its CRM overhauled and a new mobile app designed. The solution was integral to KP's strategy and investment meetings, scheduling, deal flow, and decision-making.

Grio's Role

Grio designed and built the mobile app from scratch, integrating multiple business intelligence tools into the CRM. We also created an unstructured data intake mechanism that fed the information pipeline.

Results

The overhauled CRM fed into analytics dashboards that displayed action items and notifications for investors and task assignments for administrators in the KP offices. The Signals Mobile App was a compliment to the CRM that further allowed trusted partners to have a direct path for this same information.

When Google launched BigQuery, they hired Grio to showcase the power of this new tool in a visceral, visual way. Grio developed the demo tool using HTML5/CSS3 animations, integrations with Google Maps, and, of course, integration with the BigQuery API.

Background

The Daikin HERO Cloud is a responsive application created to visualize data from indoor units (IDUs) and outdoor units (ODUs), and remotely troubleshoot errors and alarms. The app works in tandem with Daikin HERO Simple Edge, the hardware device attached to rooftop units (RTUs).

Grio's Role

The Grio team designed the HERO Cloud application from the ground up, beginning with user testing and in-depth interviews to gather information regarding user motivations, highest-priority tasks, and current challenges.

Results

The HERO Cloud app now offers multi-site remote monitoring, live equipment data visualization, ODU and IDU refrigerant flow animation, and alarm notifications for troubleshooting, with more to come as Grio continues to design future versions of the HERO Cloud.

My Sutro is an IoT app that works with a smart monitor to measure the free chlorine, alkalinity, pH, and temperature of pools and spas. Sutro is a CES honoree for Most Innovative Smart Home Technology.

Grio's Role

Grio has worked with Sutro to design & develop nearly all of their device software, including a chatbot, a chemical recommendation engine, and the underlying app software for web, iOS, and Android. Grio additionally built a modular system that allowed Sutro to test updates prior to completion of the full app, and to test the app prior to completion of the final hardware.

Results

Sutro's My Sutro pool monitoring solution launched in the fall of 2019. Some of Grio's most impactful contributions to date include: providing full-stack development from Firmware to cloud on IoT devices, integrating the chatbot, adding marketing automation, and building a chemical recommendation platform.

Ceribell Clinician Web Portal

Ceribell

Background

Ceribell's EEG device turns brainwaves into sounds, allowing front-line medical professionals, such as nurses and ER doctors, to quickly diagnose seizures and other brain function anomalies.

Grio's Role

Ceribell tapped Grio to build a medical-grade IoT platform for their novel electroencephalogram (EEG) device. The Grio team designed and built Ceribell's FDA-approved cloud-based EEG system, the first of its kind.

Results

With Grio's new build, clinicians can visualize multiple data streams concurrently, which has improved efficiency in the diagnostic and treatment workflow. A 2020 study found that the combination of the Ceribell EEG device and Grio's IoT platform resulted in a wait time for results of 5 minutes compared to the 4 hours with conventional EEGs, as well as a diagnostic accuracy of 90% compared to the 65% using clinical judgment alone. A second study of the Ceribell EEG found that the use of the system resulted in average savings of more than $5,000 per patient. The Ceribell EEG Portal was the first FDA-cleared seizure burden trend for effective seizure management. The Ceribell system is now FDA-approved for all ages and is used in clinical settings across the country to detect ongoing seizures, making EEGs more accessible, efficient, and cost-effective.

ATA wanted to create a seamless custom t-shirt ordering experience by developing a smart configurator. The challenge was to build a tool that accurately calculated body measurements and integrated seamlessly with Shopify for order fulfillment.

Grio designed and developed a cloud-based sizing API and a Shopify-integrated configurator. This included a dynamic measurement calculator, admin editing tools, automated order processing, and CRM integration via Klaviyo.

Results

The configurator enhanced customer experience, reduced sizing errors, and streamlined fulfillment. ATA now offers a scalable, user-friendly solution that simplifies custom apparel ordering.

Grio wanted to see exactly what we could accomplish with AI API integrations. While many of our developers had used them in other projects, we wanted to create an app that allowed us to fully test the capabilities and limitations firsthand.

Grio's Role

For the GRŌ app, we chose to integrate with GPT-4. The GRŌ app has two distinct integrations with GPT-4: personalized recommendations and an AI chatbot assistant.

Results

Some of the key features of the GRO app include: - AI virtual assistant that uses location information to make personalized plant and care recommendations - A virtual garden of recommended plants based on the users based on biome and location information. Once a plant is in a user's virtual garden, the app can continue to provide care recommendations throughout the year. - A virtual assistant chat feature with controlled responses that ensure the assistant's answers are relevant to the user's location

The iCoin Wallet System is an Air Gap digital wallet for Bitcoin and Ethereum. The wallet uses a rear-facing camera to read and import the blockchain data required to create a transaction.

Grio provided iOS and Android development for consumer applications and engineered the blockchain communications between the app and the hardware wallet.

Results

The iCoin Wallet System was released in 2022, and was named Best Bitcoin Hardware Wallet in 2023 by BraveNewCoin. Grio continued working with iCoin to develop iOS and Android companion applications that pair with the hardware wallet, as well as a backend server that connects to crypto exchanges to check transactions and price fluctuations.

Enspectra Health is pioneering virtual biopsies.

Grio's Role

The Grio team was tasked with building a tablet application for Enspectra's non-invasive skin biopsy solution. The goal was to create an easy-to-use product, allowing a clinician to capture and review images on a tablet while scanning the Enspectra wand over the patient's skin.

Results

The completed tablet app enabled Enspectra to pass their initial clinical trial as well as numerous testing phases. Grio's contributions have moved Enspectra closer to its ultimate goal of FDA approval and adoption in the dermatology medical field.

Elemeno Application Redesign

The Elemeno Health app enables nurses and other hospital staff to easily access and disseminate standard operating procedures within hospital organizations.

Grio's Role

Elemeno had previously released a working product, but they needed to take it to the next level. To get there, they partnered with Grio to do a visual and UX redesign of their product, along with front-end development work for the core screens and flows.

Results

The redesign provided a dramatically cleaned-up and streamlined design that improved user experience throughout the application. Elemeno users are now able to find the information they need quickly and efficiently. The new design will also scale to accommodate a new data architecture planned for a future rollout.

C3 Pathfinder App

Background

C3 Pathfinder is a data discovery tool for states, career counselors, and eventually students. The tool outlines specific skills and links them together so that a student/participant can see how their skills can be built upon to earn related, stackable skills that will transition to higher-skilled, higher paying jobs (the “pathway”).

Grio's Role

The Grio team was brought on board to build out the MVP version of the application, to be deployed across Alabama community colleges. After defining product requirements, we built the initial iteration of the app as a React plugin with a Wordpress backend.

Results

Grio's contributions have allowed C3 Pathfinder to start rolling out the application throughout the Alabama Community College system, with an ultimate goal of expanding nationwide. C3 Pathfinder now has an MVP that college administrators can use in the field and give feedback on, and a robust platform for future growth.

In February 2019, Armorblox emerged from stealth mode and raised $16.5 million of Series A funding from General Catalyst. Armorblox is a leading voice in cybersecurity with its innovative use of AI and NLP. They worked with Grio to design the interface that reports what the system has learned regarding potential threats.

Results

Officewise returned to Grio to design the client-facing portion of their product. We worked with them to iterate on dashboard designs and the complex forms that are required for inventory management. Grio and Officewise decided to leverage data visualization libraries for the dashboard in order to maximize flexibility and usability.

Results

LodgeLink was able to accommodate its growing mobile user base by offering a quick and seamless solution for users' needs. Following the launch of LodgeLink's app, users reported a dramatic increase in convenience when managing their bookings remotely. LodgeLink also obtained valuable data on user behavior, gaining insights on when and how users were engaging with the platform.

Miansai creates fine jewelry and statement pieces for the everyday, modern minimalist.

Miansai turned to Grio to design and build a unique product configurator that could be added to their existing Shopify site. Grio built the product configurator as a React-based Shopify plugin.

Results

Grio's configurator lets shoppers create their own custom jewelry by dragging and dropping products onto an HTML Canvas. Shoppers can additionally move and reorder their products, and navigate between product images by swiping left and right. The configurator tracks price and availability information so shoppers can quickly move to checkout when their creation is complete.

Omniquo provides an artificial intelligence (AI) software suite that powers the functions of sales, marketing, service, and transactional workflows.

Grio worked with Omniquo on a company rebrand, during which Grio developed Omniquo's new brand identity, including its logo, typography, color, and iconography. Grio was also responsible for designing three marketing sites.

Results

Grio's rebrand better aligned Omniquo's brand identity with its unique and competitive value propositions. Additionally, the three marketing sites that Grio designed further supported Omniquo's new brand, provided streamlined UX and UI, and were optimized for web traffic and conversion.

IronSheepdog builds a set of tools, including a mobile application, that help managers of trucking fleets manage truck movement.

IronSheepdog had an existing React Native application, but they didn't have an in-house resource to work on it. They turned to Grio to perform application maintenance and build out new features.

Results

Grio developers implemented crash reporting using Crashlytics and Bugsnag, and started fixing crashes. Grio also refactored numerous app features for an improved user experience.

Leveraging Grio's design team, new messaging and payment flows for the in-app purchases were designed for both mobile and desktop versions of the Otter app.

These and other improvements were delivered on time for inclusion in the early beta release to journalists. AISense was able to launch Otter on time and has been receiving great reviews.

Percept was founded in 2013 with a goal of advancing human vision, perception, and performance through technology. Percept came to Grio for help developing the MVP versions of their iOS and Android applications.

Grio's Role

Grio designed and developed the iOS and Android applications from the ground up, working with the Percept team to understand their business goals and propose a solution that would be a companion to the Percept wearable device.

Results

Percept's initial public offering, MiWear, launched in Q1 2023. Some of Grio's most impactful contributions to date include: providing full stack development for apps for both consumers and eye care professionals, defining the Bluetooth specification that allows the app to communicate with the wearable device, and designing a beautiful and intuitive application for gathering feedback from wearable device users.

Grio developers built Pyvott in Flutter to expedite the development time and handled the full stack development of the Pyvott backend server.

Our design work included conducting comparative design audits, creating user flows and new designs, and assembling asset libraries for both iOS and Android. All of this design work contributed to a smooth developer hand-off, easy access to assets for both Grio and Premise developers, and a successful launch in the app stores.

Goodreads is the world's largest social network for readers. Users can connect with friends to search, rate, and review any book in Goodreads' inventory of more than 12 Million titles.

Grio's Role

Goodreads selected Grio as their partner to build and release their latest Android versions for Amazon's Kindle Fire.

Results

The Goodreads app launched on the Amazon Kindle Fire and was utilized by Goodreads' Android users.

Stride Health is the leader in portable benefits for independent workers, offering access to health insurance plans and easy-to-use tools that help people get covered and put their plans to use.

Grio's Role

In order to meet its product goals, Stride Health needed to quickly ramp up its design team. Grio designers embedded in Stride Health to keep their product design moving forward while they searched for more permanent team members.

Results

Grio designed web and mobile features for Stride Health's consumer site, as well as tools for insurance brokers. After our initial three-month engagement ended, Grio designers were brought back a few months later to help Stride Health stay on top of their timelines and meet their goals.

Background

The Chemical Lifecycle Collaborative (CLiCC) tool is a groundbreaking application that analyzes and educates users about the intricate life cycle of chemicals in our environment. The UCSB team deeply understood the science behind what they wanted to build, but didn't have the design or development expertise to carry out their product vision.

Grio's Role

With a grant from the US EPA, the Grio team was brought on board to define, design, and build the MVP version of the CLiCC product. Grio project managers and designers engaged in an in-depth exploration of the project's requirements, enabling us to craft meticulous wireframes and designs for this complex tool. Our developers then built the application in React for a scalable and maintainable system.

Results

The CLiCC product was launched in 2018 and continues to enable rapid, high-throughput screening of life-cycle impacts for new chemicals.

Background

Kleiner Perkins, a century capital firm, needed its CRM overhauled and a new mobile app designed. The solution was integral to KP's strategy and investment meetings, scheduling, deal flow, and decision-making.

Grio's Role

Grio designed and built the mobile app from scratch, integrating multiple business intelligence tools into the CRM. We also created an unstructured data intake mechanism that fed the information pipeline.

Results

The overhauled CRM fed into analytics dashboards that displayed action items and notifications for investors and task assignments for administrators in the KP offices. The Signals Mobile App was a compliment to the CRM that further allowed trusted partners to have a direct path for this same information.

BigQuery is technology for performing fast queries over massive datasets. It allows companies to iterate rapidly over their data, which allows users to ask more intelligent questions.

Grio's Role

When Google launched BigQuery, they hired Grio to showcase the power of this new tool in a visceral, visual way. Grio developed the demo tool using HTML5/CSS3 animations, integrations with Google Maps, and, of course, integration with the BigQuery API.

Results

The Grio team designed a fun, interactive “engine” to demonstrate how Big Query could be used.

Target's iPad app experience is intended to create a fun and easy shopping experience for users.

Grio's Role

Grio worked with Target to develop features that streamlined the user experience without compromising on security or reliability.

Results

Grio used cutting-edge innovations that allowed shoppers to discover trends via Instagram, browse weekly ads, easily shop all Target departments, and securely make their purchases.

Sutro Procedural Learning and Safety Collaborative

The SIMPL app provides surgical trainees with a comprehensive platform for assessments, allowing them to receive timely feedback from instructors, track their progress, and identify areas for improvement.

Grio's Role

Over the years, Grio has designed and developed multiple new features for the app, including full-stack development for native iOS and Android versions, as well as the backend server APIs and admin.

Results

Grio is currently working on a full app redesign that will improve user experience and efficiency. Grio is also laying out a long-term release strategy for the app that maximizes growth and usability.

Rivals Publishing is the Rivals Content Management System (CMS) that enables creators to publish consistently beautiful pieces of content for their followers.

Grio's Role

Since 2016, Grio has led the design and development of Yahoo's Rivals website, along with its powerful CMS publishing tool.

Results

The Rivals publishing tool is used by authors and publishers nationwide.

Daikin HERO Cloud

Daikin North America

Background

The Daikin HERO Cloud is a responsive application created to visualize data from indoor units (IDUs) and outdoor units (ODUs), and remotely troubleshoot errors and alarms. The app works in tandem with Daikin HERO Simple Edge, the hardware device attached to rooftop units (RTUs).

Grio's Role

The Grio team designed the HERO Cloud application from the ground up, beginning with user testing and in-depth interviews to gather information regarding user motivations, highest-priority tasks, and current challenges.

Results

The HERO Cloud app now offers multi-site remote monitoring, live equipment data visualization, ODU and IDU refrigerant flow animation, and alarm notifications for troubleshooting, with more to come as Grio continues to design future versions of the HERO Cloud.
